Buyt.in is an Indian online shopping search engine headquartered in Delhi, India. It was founded by Yogesh Tomar, Biswanath Patel, Simran Singh and Sunil Jain. Buyt allows a user to search and compare more than 7 million products across multiple retailers using generic search terms.

History

Buyt was founded in 2012 by alumni of The INDIAN Institute of Technology, Yogesh Tomar and Simran Singh (IIT Delhi) and Biswanath Patel (IIT Bombay). The partners used to work in the financial services sector, before deciding to leave their jobs to use their expertise in technology to tackle the problems online shoppers face in India. Sunil Jain, ex-business development head, Siemens India and an alumnus of IIM Bangalore, subsequently joined the team.

Concept

Buyt uses a copyrighted algorithm which allows a user to search and compare products using generic search terms. The platform covers several product categories such as mobiles, televisions, apparel, shoes, cosmetics and much more. The platform claims to have tie-ups with AbOUT 100 retailers.

Buyt is also one of the first search engines in the world to add voice search feature on webkit browsers.

Funding

The Company raised $1 million from Delhi-based digital marketing firm, ValueFirst. As part of the investment, ValueFirst CEO Vishwadeep Bajaj will join the board of the company.The funds will be primarily used for expanding operations in the Middle East and South-east Asia by the end of this year, and for hiring a sales and marketing team in those regions. The company also plans to revamp its site and will build mobile applications.
