Buddy Browser
Buddy Browser, Inc. is a Los Angeles, CA, children’s Internet technology company based in Los Angeles, CA. Its premier product, Buddy Browser, is a hybrid browser, portal and search engine for kids (ages 4-10).
Founded by Raz Barr in 2005, and launched in 2006, Buddy Browser allows kids to visit all of their favorite websites in a safe way. After downloading from the Buddy Browser website, the browser resides on the user’s computer. Clicking the “Buddy” icon launches the browser. The browser is graphically dynamic with images and audible buttons facilitate usage for young kids. Once “inside,” kids surf to thousands of pre-selected sites. This cache of sites prevents kids from exploring further into the Internet, or accidentally accessing inappropriate web content. Parental controls incorporated into the browser allow parents to determine the level of security.
Buddy Browser, Inc., future growth in adding communications and networking applications and original content to the portal environment. The company plans to create localized versions in international markets to build a world wide web for kids.
History & Business Model
Buddy browser was conceived in 2004 by technology veteran Barr. “I wanted to create something for my girls that would allow them to visit all of their favorite websites, but also give me peace of mind.” Over the next two years he managed the development and release of the children browser.
The website and browser went live in August 2006. A free version of the browser is available for download. This free browser/portal product generates revenue by advertising. A premium version without advertising and with additional features is available for a monthly fee. An educational version of Buddy Browser is currently in development for schools and libraries.
In April 2007, Internet safety expert Ray Soular partnered with Buddy Browser. 1 Soular’s SafeSurfcreated to provide parents with information on Internet safety for kids, endorses Buddy Browser’s product and mission.
