Production

When Nuna first began the idea of Brutal there wasn't much of a script. It was more a few pages telling the story. He knew what he wanted from the beginning. He wanted something that felt raw and real. To keep up with this need for realism an official script was never written. It was a series of improvisation, ad libbing, and sit downs with the cast and crew that gave the film its dialog. All effects and stunts in the movie were performed by the cast and many corners were cut to make everything feel real.

"The budget didn’t provide for breakaway or padded walls or fake instruments of death. Concussions, broken bones and real blood were a daily outcome of shooting." - Paddy Fineran 2
