Brucius
Brücius is an American tattoo artist based in San Francisco. Brücius is famous for winning First Prize at Biennale International Tattoo in 2015, form.ink's Top 10 tattoo artists in the Bay Area, and a regular labor donor to Tatzoo. He has tattooed musician Mara Hruby and performed live at artist events at the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Carbonated.TV lists him as the #1 artist “that will make you wanna get inked asap”.
From 2007 to 2009 Brücius attended the Art Center in Pasadena, California with a focus on Fine Art. He was an artist assistant in Los Angeles for roughly a year doing fine art graphite drawings before pursuing a career in the tattoo industry.
He has been the general manager and a tattoo artist at Black and Blue Tattoo in San Francisco since 2009 and is known for using the style of etchings and scientific illustration. Morgan English wrote, “Brucius draws daily inspiration from endless sources: medieval engravings, wood-cut etchings, taxidermy, architecture, astronomy, Greek and Roman architecture, as well as biological, nautical and anatomical illustrations. His work is an ever-evolving testament to the majesty of nature and the fascinating history of all humanity.”
In September 2015 he was a guest tattoo artist at AKA in Neukölln, Berlin, Sang Bleu in London, Puro in Milan, and Tribal Act in Paris.
In April 2016, Brücius announced that he will be opening an independent tattoo parlor in 2017 named Black Serum in the San Francisco Mission District. “It’s an artisanal shop, focused on blackwork and craftsmanship. The common theme will be etching, passion for nature, and a love for the arts. It will reflect the diversity of San Francisco, and we’ll also host guest artists.”
