Captain Bruce H. Lindsey, USN Executive Officer, USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71)
Captain Lindsey is a second generation Naval Officer born in Charleston, S.C. He received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 1982 and was given orders to VT-10 and VT-86 in Pensacola, Fla., for initial flight training. In October 1983, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer and reported to VS-41, NAS North Island. After initial S-3A training, he was ordered to VS-21 and met the squadron while deployed to the Indian Ocean in October 1984. During his tour with VS-21, he made two deployments aboard USS Enterprise home ported in Alameda, CA., the second one in support of Libyan Operations in 1986. In 1987, he reported to CINCUSNAVEUR in London, England as aide to the Chief of Staff. In January 1989, Captain Lindsey transferred to VX-1, Patuxent River, MD where he served as the S-3A/B and ES-3A Section Head, responsible for three aircraft and crews.
In March 1991, Captain Lindsey reported to COMCARGRU Five as Staff ASW officer in USS MIDWAY Battle Group, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan that conducted the first SOUTHERN WATCH operations. Upon completion of that assignment, he reported again to VS-21, this time in Atsugi, Japan serving as Administrative and Operations Department Head, during two more Operation SOUTHERN WATCH deployments aboard USS INDEPENDENCE.
In 1995, he reported to the Naval War College in Newport, RI., where he received the President's Award for Academic and Public Service Excellence and earned a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic studies. He has continued his studies and was awarded a PhD in Public Policy at George Mason University in August 2005 writing AbOUT Strategy, Technology, and Education, including A New Methodology to Answer the Eternal Question: Forward…From The Sea But With What? (1996); The Complexity of Modeling the U.S. Economy Endogenously: A Review of Knowledge and Technology as Possible Key Determinants to Economic Growth to Resolve the Productivity Paradox in the U.S. Economy- An Assessment (1998); No Big Cure: An Integrated Political-Military NBC Strategy for the 21st Century (2002); The Effect of Computers on the Mathematical Achievement on the U.S. Eighth Grade Students (2005). Captain Lindsey is a Joint Specialty Officer.
From 1997 to 2000, Captain Lindsey served on the Joint Staff in the Operations Directorate (J-3) and was the liaison officer to the White House for Presidential Contingency Programs. He reported as Executive Officer of VS-29 in March 2000 and assumed command of the world famous DRAGONFIRES on 4 September 2001. In 2003, Captain Lindsey selected for the Aviation Nuclear Power program and reported to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) on 9 March 2005 to assume duties as the Executive Officer.
His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight with numeral 2), Navy Commendation Medal with three gold stars and the Navy Achievement Medal, along with various unit and service ribbons. He has accumulated over 2700 flight hours and logged over 640 traps.
