Bridging Liberal Arts and Mathematics

Bridging Liberal Arts and Mathematics (BLAM) is a two-week, residential interdisciplinary program for high school students. BLAM takes place over the summer at Wofford College. The emphasis of BLAM is on the connections that mathematics has with art, history, literature, logic, etc. This camp, along with Shared Worlds, make up Wofford's summer programs. Each one emphasizes collaborative learning, experiential learning, and connections among the various liberal arts , .

  • logical foundations of mathematics
  • history of irrational numbers and non-Euclidean geometries
  • fractals and their use in art
  • tessellations, especially those by M.C. Escher
  • relationships between number theory and MusicAL scales
  • mathematics of the Pythagoreans
  • links between bridges and computer networks
  • mathematics of bubbles
