Brain Resin
Brain Resin is a Brisbane band exploring a brutal and difficult to categorise form of heavy music mixing SLUDGE, hardcore and grindcore.
Early Years
In 1994 teenagers Michael Brackenridge and Victor Roberts conspired to form a band inspired by The Melvins. In 1995 they gained drummer Claudio Climaco who moved to Australia from Brazil and began bashing out primitive sludgy rock. A 4 song demo was committed to tape later that year.
In 1997 they began playing shows around Brisbane with local punk and metal bands at now deceased venues such as the Treasury and Melbourne Hotels. Their debut 13-track CD Golden Oldies was released in 1998 fuelling interest and appreciation from a Small number of fans and musicians intrigued by the albums ridiculous bass sound and sheet metal CD packaging. The 100 CD-R run was released on their own label Devastation Records.
Unreality Remains
By the end of 1999 they had gained a second guitarist Thomas Madden, toured interstate and had supported USA doom/grind act Dystopia. 2000 marked the recording of the second album Unreality Remains, the departure of Thomas and a a spot at Noisefest in Adelaide alongside bands such as Good Clean Fun(USA), The Kill and Captain Cleanoff to name a few. 2001 saw several Sydney tours, the release of Unreality Remains and a 15 date European tour taking in Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Switzerland.
The European tour saw the band playing alongside underground bands such as Harem Scarem(USA), Gorge Trio(USA), Infaust(GER) and Cluster Bomb Unit(GER)in a variety of squats to small but appreciative crowds.
Expansion
Following the European tour Brain Resin began writing new songs with new full-time vocalist Amanda Ylias. Along the way they were waylaid with personal tradgedies, band members galavanting around the world, financial difficulties and work commitments but still managed to play sporadic live shows with bands like Iron Lung(USA), Rambo(USA) and Ausralian stalwarts such as Conation and Godnose amongst others. In late 2005 Brain Resin stepped into Zero Interference studio with Bryce Moorehead to record their as yet unreleased third album If Pain Persists.
Sound and Influences
The band has forged a unique hybrid sound of rumbling down-tuned guitar sounds and intricate time signatures fusing diverse influences ranging from heavy guitar bands such as Godflesh, Melvins, Zeni Geva, Dystopia, Shellac, Botch, Napalm Death and just plain badass crust and grind to experimental music, electronica, Hip-Hop, traditional Brazilian music and 20th century compositions. Brain Resin retains a whimsical sense of humour sometimes lost on fans attracted to their bleak lyrical matter dealing with mental illness, enviromental themes and war etc
Members have also spent time in bands such as Biceptasaurus, Dregs of Humanity, Fisted Sister, Blue Wine, Snow Husky, Ken Hael Quintet, Stolen Organs Cartel, Nadsat and nowadays Battle Chimp, Fangs of..., Raised by Wolves and Worm Intentions.
