Bobby (Robert) Bolger

Bobby Bolger was one of the best known breeders of the Connemara Pony.

Owned the renowned "Coral" prefix and ran his farm form Coral Stud, Ballyconnelly, Clifden, Co. Galway. Bolger was one of the longest serving members on the Connemara Pony Breeders Society Council and frequently served on its Inspection team.

When Bobby took seriously to showing ponies in the 80’s he had a lot to live up to. His father Jack had won in Clifden with famous ponies Heather Mixture of Abbeyleix (M-2709), Cashel Kate (M-2030) and Noble Star (S-17). Achieved the distinction of winning the Clifden Supreme Championstip on five occasions in seven years. Between 1993 and 1999 - Coral Misty (2), Queen Gillian (2) and Coral Star (1).

He served as Treasurer of the Island Angling Club.

In 2005, Bolger represented the Connemara Pony Breeders Society at a meeting of the Irish Horse Board regarding the future of the Irish Sport Horse industry.

In 2008, he was inducted into the Connemara Society Hall of Fame.

Bolger was one of ten people who spent their lives with horses profiled in the book A Way With Horses by Niamh O Dochartaigh.

He died on November 2, 2009.
