Boarding House of Hunks
Boarding House Of Hunks is a 17 volume manhwa, by Hwang Mi-ri.
Plot
The main character is the boy-crazy Shin Jae Yoo, who is willing to use any underhanded means if it means living in the boarding house full of hot guys…even if it’s going out on a blind date with the dorkiest boy in the school. When she dumps the guy immediately after the "date," she pisses off his handsome best friend Ji Hu and from that point on, the two are constantly going at each other’s throats like cats and dogs. When Jae Yoo finally accomplishes her dream of entering the “boarding house of hunks,” she thinks that nothing could go wrong. An amazing house, a kind landlady, and even a cute guy who seems to be interested in her. Things run smoothly until she finds that Ji Hu is the landlady's son.
Main Characters
Shin Jae-yoo (신재유)
She is often times hot-headed and oblivious in certain situations. She desperately wants a flower-beautiful guy for a boyfriend, which is why she seeks out a room at the boarding house (However, there's a no dating rule with other boarders).
Her first love is Hyun-woo, who rejects her on the spot. He still remains her best friend.
When she moves into the boarding house, she and Ji-hoo constantly fight (because of the blind date she had with Dong-joo). Their interaction changes when she sees him getting beaten up by Kang Tae-il and his guys. She sees his human side and wants to know more about him (perhaps even falling for him).
Jae-yoo eventually starts going out with Ji-hoo.
Min Ji-hoo (민지후)
His mother runs the boarding house that Jae-yoo was interested in moving in to. He firsts meets Jae-yoo after a fight with Kang Tae-il, although he's hiding out behind a light poll watching her confess to Hyun-woo. They meet again at Dong-joo's and Jae-yoo's blind date, and he is uncertain of where he's seen her before. He immediate insults her and leaves. Later, when the date doesn't end well, to protect his friend, he calls her up to confront her. When he realizes Jae-yoo's the new boarder, he asks his mom to kick her out. Every time they see each other they fight.
His first love/girlfriend, named Yoo-ri, dumped him for Kang Tae-il. They were together since middle school. She watched him get beaten up by Tae-il and then left him. Tae-il ended up finding a new girlfriend, and she came back to Ji-hoo so they could start over. He mistakenly takes her back only for Tae-il to steal Yoo-ri again. The ex-girlfriend eventually left Korea. Because of this, he finds it hard to find another girlfriend. Also, Tae-il becomes his rival, so Ji-hoo is always fighting with the Inpyoung gang as his way of revenge. He's now known as the "iljin" (top gang leader) at the school.
The only way he trusts Jae-yoo is if she tells him she likes him (asking her to repeat what she said). He needs the confirmation, because he constantly worries she's cheating on him (the scars of a broken heart).
Oh Soo-bin (오수빈)
Soo-bin is the rockstar/singer among the guys. His attractiveness is similar to Ji-hoo. Soo-bin starts off as Jae-yoo's companion in the new home, and in contrast to Ji-hoo (even though they are good friends), he's tame and willing to talk to her. He tells her that Ji-hoo is a good person once you get to know him.
He also starts to like Jae-Yoo. Even after he found that Ji-Hoo and Jae-Yoo became couple, he doesn't give up and continues trying to make Jae-Yoo his.
Kang Tae-il (강태일)
He is Ji-hoo's rival from Inpyung High School, who stole away his girlfriend. Any time they are in the same room, there's always a fight. Jae-yoo first meets him at night when she's picking up beer for the house (they were celebrating). She went the wrong way, against Ji-hoo's advice. A fight starts, one of Kang Tae-il's guys gets hurt, and Ji-hoo and Jae-yoo head home. The next day Soo-bin rushes out of school, and Jae-yoo follows him to what appears to be a fight. This is the first time she sees Ji-hoo hurt because of her.
Even with Jae-yoo, Kang Tae-il shows a particular interest in her and asks her to be his girlfriend. Rumors start to spread that Jae-yoo is seeing him, and Ji-hoo starts to feel insecure about his own relationship with Jae-yoo.
Jae-yoo's Friends
Han Kyoung-ah (한경아)
She's Jae-yoo's classmate and the first friend (other than the boarders) that she makes at the new school. Jae-yoo sends her out on a date with Soo-bin (although he doesn't know that Kyoung-ah is the one coming).
Hee-youn (회영)
She's Jae-yoo's best friend, but they go to different high schools.
Seo Hyun-woo (서현우)
He is Jae-yoo's first love/one-sided love. Ji-hoo was there the night she was drunk and confessed her feelings to Hyun-woo. He rejected her feelings, told her he has a girlfriend and she's not his type. However, the two have remained friends.
Ji-hoo doesn't believe that he's anything to Jae-yoo because he rejected her. Ji-hoo doesn't like him because he doesn't believe that guys and girls can be friends without feelings being involved. He tells Ji-Hoo that Jae-Yoo likes him and made Ji-Hoo realize what does he have to with her. But he still fears Ji-hoo (since he is an iljin).
Boarding House Mates
Ahn Dong-joo (안동주)
He's the dorky guy that Jae-yoo had to go on the blind date with to secure her chances of getting into the boarding house. When the date doesn't end well, the dorky guy reveals his violent side. After Jae-yoo moves into the house and they all start school, he's very awkward around her and easily upsets when she's with the other guys. Even despite being rebuffed, he still takes an interest in making sure Jae-yoo is all right.
Ji-min (지민)
She is Jae-yoo's creepy roommate at the boarding house. She harbors some jealousy and resentment that Soo-bin pays more attention to her.
Kang Hyun-ha (강현하)
He questions Ji-hoo and Soo-bin (and Dong-joo) about their attraction to Jae-yoo. During many of Ji-hoo and Jae-yoo's conflicts, he tends to be on Ji-hoo's side and antagonizes her character and personality.
Minor Characters
Joo Hee-jin (주희진)
She was there by his side to help Ji-hoo when Yoo-ri left him. She dislikes Jae-yoo as she's competition. She does what she can to sabotage Ji-hoo's impression of Jae-yoo's true feelings for him.
Yoo-ri (유리)
(She is never drawn in, just mentioned in context) Min Ji-hoo's ex-girlfriend and first love, who left him for Kang Tae-il. This is where their rivalry started and why Ji-hoo is insecure when he hears Jae-yoo being associated with him. Ji-hoo held onto the necklace he was going to give her, and the guys find out and realize that he doesn't seem ready to be in a relationship with Jae-yoo.
Hae-won (해원)
Ji-hoo's classmate from college who decides she wants Ji-hoo, even though he has a girlfriend. She is persistent in her pursuit for him when Ji-hoo and Jae-yoo's relationship starts to be unstable again.
Eun-Cha(은찬)
He is Jae-yoo's co-worker at the fast food restaurant she works at. He pesters her at first, but Ji-hoo quickly picks up on his feelings for her. Ji-hoo grows more and more suspicious of their friendship.
