Background

Known as the Nicole Brown Copycat [...], California's worst child-on-child crime was committed in 1994 by a 13-year-old boy named Adan Garcia, who murdered 14-year-old family friend Andrea Hines. Garcia stabbed Hines 74 times, carving a stylized pentagram of his first initial on her stomach and nearly severing her head. The [...] was the only recorded [...] in town history, though incidents of child abuse and domestic violence were fairly common according to retired Holtville Police Sergeant Ralph Munoz. The teenagers were left alone at Andrea's home for one hour while their parents had a drink at a local bar. Garcia served 12 years in the California Youth Authority (CYA) and was released in October of 2005. His mother still resides in Holtville; Adan's whereabouts are unknown.
