Blank tape
Blank Tape refers to the guerilla style movement of music distribution currently enjoying a surge in popularity in Birmingham, England. CD cases for unsigned bands have been spread across the city. The Oasis Market has proved a popular destination for them, but many have been found in piles in Pub's and live music venues across the city.
Design
The cases are typically cardboard sleeves, distinct in design and usually emblazoned with a spray paint stencil. In most cases, each case is handmade and the inner sleeve has been photocopied from a handwritten piece of paper.
Origins
The origins of Blank Tape are unknown, as no credit has yet been taken for it. The logo is a small white cassette tape with the words Blank Tape written along the top. Blank Tape is not an amateur Record Label and most likely doesn't plan to be. This theory is supported by the fact that it's 'releases' do not contain a website or contact address and so far any sign of them on the internet is limited to this page. As of yet, no band 'released' by Blank Tape has given any details as to who is behind it. The cases have become a popular collectible item for locals who frequent the spots in which the cd's are dropped.
Releases
So far Blank Tape has been credited with the distribution of numerous unsigned band cd's, mostly from Birmingham, England, but some from as far afield as Brisbane, Australia.
