The exchange was founded in 2018 with headquarters in the British Virgin Islands. The platform offered various services including spot trading, derivatives, leveraged tokens, and staking. BKEX claimed to support over 1,200 crypto assets with over 8 million users from more than 100 countries. In 2019, Forbes reported that the exchange was replicating Binance's exchange history to appear that it was a more active trading platform than it really was. At the time, it claimed $1.1 billion in daily trade volume.
Following the withdrawal suspension, BKEX's social channels went inactive and its website went offline. As of January 2025, BKEX has not resumed operations.
