BitSnoop
BitSnoop is a torrent search engine created in 2009 after six months of development. Searches on the website are served using BitSnoop's own index with fuzzy searching, TrackerMatch and TV Finder.
History
The site is based in the Russian Federation and was launched in October 2009 after six months of development.
In October 2013, a court order in the United Kingdom ruled that British ISPs must block 21 websites that were believed to link to pirated music. BitSnoop was included in the list and was blocked.
Features
Users are able to rate torrents and comment on them without registration, with limits to activity interval per IP address.
Fuzzy searching
BitSnoop supports fuzzy searching â it displays results for "similar" torrents, using proprietary word stemming and phonetic hashing algorithms.
TrackerMatch
Similar to other BitTorrent search engines, BitSnoop performs cross-referencing of trackers in torrent. The algorithms used (referred to as TrackerMatch) are able to recognize DNS aliases, redirects, clustered trackers and exclude erroneous tracker URLs.
TV Finder
BitSnoop provides its users with "TV Finder" â a directory of TV-related torrents. The directory is built automatically based on search index and is able to break down listings to shows, seasons and episodes. Date browsing is also supported.
Technical details
Search robots and the site itself are developed using Java technology.
