Bison System

Bison System is the Unarmed Combat Art of Immobilizing, Crippling, Handicapping, causing permanent Disability & Termination of the enemy in the shortest possible time with bare hands or non projectile weapons intended to saving life, assets & soil, within the purview of the law. The art unlike most martial arts is essentially focused on a singular goal – to terminate the enemy or opponent in the shortest possible time.

Origin

Bison System draws inspiration from Richard Bustillo's Jeet Kune Do (JKD) whose concepts are said to have served as the basis for the development of this art.

Jeet Kune Do concepts

The Jeet Kune Do concepts are a guideline to problem solving inside and outside the arena. The JKD concepts as summarized by the Founders of Bison System is as follows:

  1. Research the truth or subject at hand: under guidance of an expert without any bias or preformed notions with an open minded approach
  2. Absorb what is useful &
  3. Reject what is useless: depending upon whether they meet the criteria of Simplicity & Economy of Resources, Directness and Efficiency
  4. Tailor make whatever has been absorbed to your self, your situation and requirement

Military

When the Rao couple, Prof. Dr. Deepak Rao and Dr. Seema Rao began applying JKD Jeet Kune Do to the military martial art requirement, there arose a need for an art which met the following criteria:

  1. The Art must cater to no height, weight or age category
  2. All techniques must be aimed at termination or crippling vital targets
  3. All techniques must be simple, few in number, easy to learn
  4. All knock downs must take less effort and the shortest possible time
  5. The Art must be principle based, allowing every individual to modify it to his advantage and constitution

Core Features

The Rao’s Bison system has the following JKD features:

  • Each opponent is fought with a different STRATEGY depending on his size, height & aggression level.
  • ATTACK first, Attack fast, Attack hard and suddenly to force the opponent to adopt a defensive approach
  • The appropriate RANGE or distance is to be selected depending on your advantage and to the opponent’s disadvantage
  • The hardest parts of the body are used against the softest parts and VITAL organs of the opponent.
  • The best available ANGLE is selected to attack the opponent and disrupt his defense
  • Attack is launched at the appropriate LEVEL (Head, Body, Groin, Leg levels) depending upon the height of the opponent
  • Attack is always launched in rapid COMBINATIONS rather than singular, giving the opponent no time to think.
  • A correct STATE (Ice-Static, Water-Bobbing, Gas-Prancing) of engagement is adopted depending upon stature of the opponent.

History

The Rao Couple

The art was founded by the Rao couple, Prof. Dr. Deepak Rao and Dr. Seema Rao, who are said to have spent 17 years of their life, researching & training over 15,000 soldiers from the Indian forces in Close Quarter Battle and Unarmed Combat since 1994. Their three decades of professional expertise in various martial arts and inspiration from their teacher, Richard Bustillo, Original student of Bruce Lee and World authority on the art founded by Bruce Lee, Jeet Kune Do (JKD) led to this modern day martial art. Prof. Dr. Rao, a 8th Deg Black Belt in Military Martial Arts, has a Doctorate in Military Science, MD in Medicine and a prestigious Law Enforcement Certification from American Society of LE Training. Dr. Seema, a 6th Deg Black Belt (military martial Arts) has an MBA in Crisis Mgt, an MD in Medicine & a Honora Doctoris PhD in Martial Science from Indiana University. She is Parachute qualified from IAF Skydiving Adv cell. Both Raos are guest instructors in Combat shooting & Close quarter battle for the Indian forces since almost 2 decades. They have been involved in researching, innovating and modernizing the Counter terror training. They were graced by the Army Chief citation in 2001 & in 2005 for their research. The Rao couple took Sifu Richard Bustillo's JKD and applied it to their work for the Indian forces. They reportedly began researching the conventional WW2 methods of Close Quarter Battle with the Jeet Kune Do perspective. The Rao’s extensively applied JKD to Close quarter battle skills resulting in the art ACCS - Advanced Commando Combat System, the Unarmed combat component of which is known today as the Bison System.

Assimilation and Accreditation

Despite initial resistance of the system's innovations, the Forces top brass ordered a systematic study into their technique and passed a directive incorporating the Rao’s JKD technique of Reflex Shooting and other CQB innovations into their official Counter Terror Training curriculum in 2006-7. The Raos then incorporated their research into their book Encyclopaedia of Close Combat Ops in 2009. It is said that they produced this book using all the money they had earned over the years to gift to the Indian Forces. The Home Minister of India felicitated the Rao couple for their work and ordered distribution of the Raos research book to its every force in the country. The Rao’s book was accepted and appreciated by the Queen of UK - Buckingham Palace, Office of the Interpol Secretary General & the FBI Director and placed in their libraries. The book is currently being distributed to all major Law enforcement agencies in all major cities of the USA & the world without any charges or compensation, as a service to the international LE community to aid the fight against terror.

Today world over, the Bison System is regarded as the most modern military martial art.
