Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College
Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College (formerly known as Bangladesh Rifles College) is one of the largest and most renowned educational institutions in Bangladesh. This prestigious seat of learning is located at the lush green campus of Peelkhana, the Head Quarters of Bangladesh Rifles in the capital city Dhaka, Bangladesh. This esteemed institution, situated in the lap of nature, not only presents a magnificent look but also provides a secured and placid atmosphere for education. On The New year’s day of 1984, the institution started its journey with the name ‘Bangladesh Rifles High School’.
Later on, in 1994 the secondary school turned into a collegiate educational centre. With the passage of time, the institution has attained a tangible improvement in the quality of education as well as expansion of volume in respect of both activities and infrastructure. In 2004 the institution was renamed after Munshi Abdur Rouf, one of the seven great heroes (Birshresthas) of Bangladesh who met heroic deaths for the liberty of the country during the liberation war in 1971. It is worth mentioning that Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf was one of the two Birshresthas who had been serving the Bangladesh Rifles (erstwhile East Pakistan Rifles) at the time of their martyrdom.

Agenda 21 Now:

Visit of UNESCO Acting Country Director:
On 18 January 2007 Mr Hassan A Keyanan the then acting country director of United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation, Bangladesh visited the institution and launched 3 projects with college UNESCO club.
Participation in ICSQCC Convention in Sri Lanka:
The 9th International Convention was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 4th to 7th January 2007. Mia Md. Moniruzzaman, the Principal of Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College, Peelkhana, Dhaka was the leader of our team that comprised 4 teachers and 12 students. The theme of the recently ended convention was to build Total Quality Person (TQP).
2006
Mondialialigo School Contest 2005-2006 Finalist:
‘We Love Bangladesh’ team comprising 17 students of the institution reached the final round of the web based intercultural dialogue competition named Mondialogo School Contest 2005-2006 conducted by UNESCO and DaimlerChrysler. Lecturer Subrata Kumar Das led the team while Abu Darda, lecturer of Computer, was the associate teacher. The team leaders and one student from the 25 finalist partner teams met at Mondialogo Symposium held in Rome, [[Italy[[ on 4 -7 November. Subrata Kumar Das and Lazina Hossain represented the Bangladeshi Team.

Flashback of the Institution
The emergence of Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College dates back to January 01, 1984. It was founded with a view to imparting education to the wards of the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) personnel. Colonel Maqbul Haider, the then Director (Communication) of Bangladesh Rifles, played a pioneer role in the foundation of this institution. The Director General of Bangladesh Rifles of that time Major General R A M Golam Muktadir’s positive attitude helped Bangladesh Rifles High School start its journey.
At the outset the number of students was only 150, while the number of teachers was only 8 including the Headmaster and the Assistant Headmaster. It is needless to say that there was no infrastructure that can be mentioned here.
Government’s approval and recognition: At first this institution got recognition as a Junior High School. Within a period of one year it turned into a High School on January 01, 1985. Only 23 students (Science and Humanities) appeared at the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination in 1987 for the first time from this institution.
Opening of the College Section: On September 03, 1994 the school achieved its boastful right of being upgraded as ‘Bangladesh Rifles College’. Major General Anwar Hossain BP, PSC, inaugurated the College Section on November 16, 1994. After the opening of the college section it got its recognition from the government on July 03, 1995.
Morning Shift Opening: Later on the then Director General of Bangladesh Rifles, Major General Ejaj Ahmed Chowdhury inaugurated the Morning Shift on March 20, 1995.
Evening Shift: The former Director General Ejaj Ahmed Chowdhury opened the evening shift on May 04, 1995. Afterwards, the evening shift was merged with the morning shift.
Degree Section: Degree Section was opened in accordance with the decision of the Governing Body held on August 07, 1998 and it continued for a few years. It had also been stopped for certain reasons.
New Name of the Institution:
In 2004 the institution was renamed after the name of Munshi Abdur Rouf, one of the seven great heroes ( Birshresthas) of Bangladesh who met heroic deaths for the liberty of the country during the liberation war of 1971. Herewith it is worth mentioning that Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf was one of the two Birshresthas who had been serving the Bangladesh Rifles (erstwhile East Pakistan Rifles) at the time of their martyrdom.
Since the inception, the college has been administered by Mia Md. Moniruzzaman as the Head of the institution. Under the patronage of Bangladesh Rifles authority ‘Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College’ teachers and staff as a team are trying heart and soul for the all-out betterment of this esteemed seat of learning.
