Birkett Long LLP is one of the largest law firms in Essex with offices in Colchester and Chelmsford and has a staff in excess of 150, including 18 partners. Birkett Long is a long established law firm, which can trace its roots back to 1821. Birkett Long is a full service firm advising business and individual clients.

Acquisitions
Birkett Long LLP acquired the Colchester firm of Jackson and Partners, effective 1 May 2009. Jackson and Partners is successor practice to the firms of Elwes Smith and Jackson, Wittey Denton and Pawsey, Elwes Wittey And Co and Jackson and Powis who have been Providing legal services for clients in Colchester and the local area since before 1850. The firm has grown into a practice with a commercial portfolio, which includes the East of England Cooperative Society, as well as handling legal matters such as wills, property and accident claims for individual clients.
On 1 February 2006, Birkett Long acquired independent financial advisers Alan Goggin Financial Management. Alan has managed his own successful business for more than 30 years, specialising in wealth creation and preservation, and managing funds in excess of £200 million. Alan and his team joined the firm's existing financial services department.
Charity
In addition to sponsorship, every year a "Charity for the Year" is nominated by staff and events are held internally to raise funds. For the year 08/09 the charity was Little Havens Children's Hospice, for whom they raised over £4,700. In 09/10 they will be supporting the Essex Air Ambulance.
