Location

BheemaNagari village is at a distance of AbOUT 4 Kilometers from Nagercoil on the 'Nagercoil - Tirunelveli' National highway. The 'Agraharam' where the family temple (Kudumba Thevaram) to perform poojas for 'Sri Bala Paremeswasri' is in the interior of the village surrounded by paddy fields which extends to the foothills of 'Sahiyadri ranges'.

History

Centuries before a 'brahmin' family residing at 'Kantra Manickam' ('Kandu-Edutha-Manickam') village in Tamil Nadu, moved from that village for obvious reasons and settled at 'Kalakkad', a village in the Tirunelveli district. They and their descendents were living in 'Kalakkad' comfortably worshipping 'Gomathy Amman', the presiding deity of 'Kalkkad temple'. As years passed by they found it difficult to continue to live there due to the oppression from the then 'British Government' who demanded heavy amounts from them by way of 'Kist' etc. and were in a dilemma as to what to do and prayed to the Goddess for their future. One day 'Gomathi Amman' appeared in the dream of the senior most lady in the family in the form of a small girl of about 7 years and ordered that the family could move westward and that they should settle at the place where they could see 'Two pieces of Turmeric' (Mutta Manjal in Tamil) and 'Red Arali flowers' at the foot of an 'Iluppa tree' where she will manifest as their family deity ('Kula Deivam') to be called'Parvathi Amman' and that she will be the protector of the family and their descendents. Accordingly the family moved westwards and after a long travel reached 'BheemaNagari' where they found the indications (Turmeric and Red Arali flower) given by 'Gomathy Amman'. The family settled there and began to worship the Goddess and performed daily poojas to this family deity. This is the origin of the family pooja of Devi at BheemaNagari Agraharam now known as BheemaNagari Amman.

As ordained by the goddess, the prathishta at the temple is Adi Kesava Sahitha Bala Parameswari. 'Goddess'

It is pertinent to note that in almost all branches of the family, one girl child will bear the name 'Parvathi' in obedience to the wishes of the goddess. The family in course of time multiplied and settled in different parts of the state, country and worldwide, who come to 'BheemaNagari' and do pooja to the family deity at their convenience.

Special Pooja to the goddess is performed on all Fridays, 'Pournami days' (Full moon days), all Tuesdays and Fridays in the month of 'Adi - Tamil month' ('Karkidakam in Malayalam') and all days of Navarathri, apart from the daily poojas in the morning and evening. Chanting of 'Vishnu Sahasranamam', 'Lalitha Sahasranama, Thrisathi' and 'Ashtothram' are most important for the poojas. Sri Vinayaka, Sri Sastha, Madan and Chudala - Pechi Amman are the 'Kaval Deivams' situated around the family deity Amman Koil. The 'Chudala - Pechi' rests at the foot of a big 'Marutha tree' which is more than 400 years old. The 'Muzhu Pooja' is a special pooja offered to the family deity by the family members. As part of the 'Muzhu Pooja', pooja and offerings are done to 'Sri Vinayaka, 'Sri Sastha' , 'Madan' and 'Chudala - Pechi'.

The descendents of the original family who moved from Kalakkad now look after the family pooja of 'BheemaNagari Amman'. The family pooja is housed in the property belonging to the descendents of the family.
