Best Secretary on Tyneside
The Best Secretary on Tyneside Award is an annual competition to find to best Personal Assistants and Secretaries in the Tyneside and surrounding areas. The competition requires senior executives and managers to nominate their PA or secretary, outlining why they are the best and deserving of the title, Best Secretary on Tyneside. Nominees also have to answer questions AbOUT their secretarial skills and what they feel represents the core attributes of the "best secretary".
The competition is organised by Pitman Training Newcastle, a franchise business tracing its origins back to secretarial schools founded by Sir Isaac Pitman, inventor of Pitman Shorthand.
2008 Award
The Best Secretary on Tyneside Award 2008 was officially launched in The Journal in June 2008. Over 40 nominations were received and a shortlist of six finalists were interviewed by the judging panel. The Awards event was held at As You Like It in Jesmond on 6 August 2008 and Julie Britt, PA to the CEO of NaREC was announced as the winner. Second place went to Emma Gent of unw and third place was awarded to Ila Wilkinson of North Tyneside Council.
2009 Award
The Best Secretary on Tyneside Award 2009 was launched on 5 August 2009 through media partner, bdaily. With over 70 nominations, the shortlist was enlarged to ten finalists, interviewed by David Stevens of Pitman Training Newcastle and the 2008 winner, Julie Britt. The Awards event was held at Tiger Tiger Newcastle on 30 September 2009 and Anne Howes, PA to the CEO of NewcastleGateshead Initiative was announced as the winner. Runners up were Kim Forster of Universities for the North East and Linsey Rivington of HILTON Newcastle Gateshead. A special Rising Star Award was presented to Samantha Jackson of onebestway. The Awards event was hosted by ITV presenter Philippa Tomson.
