Bekaba
Bekaba is the ninth studio album by the Malaysian singer, Noraniza Idris. The album was released on 23 August 1999 by Suria Records, seven months after the release of her duet album with singer Siti Nurhaliza, Seri Balas (1999).
"Tinting" was released as the lead single from the album. The song, composed by Pak Ngah and based on the hadrah concept, succeeded in winning the hearts of local music listeners. At the same time, Noraniza managed to attract an even larger fanbase. The second single, "Ngajat Tampi", a song based on the ngajat concept, went on to reach the final round of the Anugerah Juara Lagu 2000.
Background
Noraniza Idris still uses the same MusicAL style. Noraniza says she sticks to traditional Malay rhythms. Perhaps this is because her soul is deeply intertwined with those rhythms. When interviewed during a photo shoot at the Utusan studio, Noraniza stated that she would never grow tired of those rhythms. For her, the word ‘bored’ has never crossed her mind; rather, her aim is to ensure that traditional Malay songs remain popular.
Noraniza says there are still many traditional Malay rhythms that have yet to be explored. She wants to explore and subsequently popularise these rhythms. In this latest album, Noraniza has the opportunity to express what she has long wished to do, particularly in terms of elevating the status of these rhythms. This opportunity has given her confidence. After all, she has had the chance to express her vision for promoting traditional rhythms. Indeed, with this opportunity, Noraniza is also confident that this album will be more satisfying for her fans. This is not only because her record label has extensive experience, but also because the material itself is genuinely of a high standard. It is therefore no surprise that for this album she has incorporated ngajat, zapin hanuman and hadrah rhythms, interwoven with contemporary beats. Noraniza continues to blend these with modern rhythms, whilst preserving their authenticity. This fusion is simply intended to make the music even more enjoyable to listen to.
Album summary
Bekaba is the result of his experimental work, through which he sought to explore the wealth of traditional culture that had not previously been explored; much of which needs to be developed and popularised amongst the general public. This encompasses a wider range of traditional cultural elements in Malaysia, including a song that became a hit here—based on the hadrah concept of “Tinting” and Dayak, Ngajat and Iban sounds, such as “Ngajat Tampi”, are featured on this album.
This album features a wide variety of traditional elements that are far more widely recognised than in his previous albums; it includes not only ghazal, zapin and joget, as well as authentic Malay melodies, but also songs based on the concepts of hadrah, Dayak, ngajat, Iban, and even indigenous Eastern sounds are also featured in this album. Both of these hit songs, "Tinting" and "Ngajat Tampi", proved particularly fortunate for him, as they both successfully made it through to the Anugerah Juara Lagu 2000.
This album features ten of his main ethnic pop tracks. Like his previous album, Masyhur, it includes the traditional song "Kisah Barat" as the opening track or introduction to the album, and the final track features a karaoke or "minus one" version of the song "Tinting". The album has sold over 50,000 copies and earned a Double Platinum Award in Malaysia via the RIM Charts, his fourth in a row.

Additional information
Bekaba was nominated in the Best Ethnic Pop Album category at the Music Industry Awards 2000 (AIM7), alongside the duet album, Seri Balas, making this the first time she had been nominated for two albums in the Best Ethnic Pop Album category. However, Bekaba lost out to the album Seri Balas, which was won by Noraniza herself alongside her duet partner Siti Nurhaliza. Subsequently, the album featured the first and second singles, "Tinting" and "Ngajat Tampi", both of which were nominated at the Muzik Muzik 2000 awards and went straight through to the Muzik Muzik 2000 Semi-Final. Unexpectedly, both were nominated to compete in the final round of the Song Champion and set one of the Song Champion records, whereby he was able to compete with two solo songs in the Malaysian Rhythm and Creative Ethnic categories for the Song Champion title; ultimately, the song "Ngajat Tampi" won Best Performance at the Song Champion Awards 2000 (Anugerah Juara Lagu 2000).
