Baladia Youth Club
History
Baladia Youth Club (BYC) was founded in 1983 as a voluntary non-profit making organisation. It focuses on the sporting development of predominately Indian boys and girls aged 8 - 18 years, although the Club has an "open door" policy.
The Club has rented facilities at Queens Park Community School, Alyestone Avenue, for the last 23 years. This comprises 1 large gymnasium, which has 4 badminton courts, and 1 small gymnasium.
The club has, at present, a full membership of 200. The facilities at present PReVENT an increase in membership, despite demand reflected in a waiting list.
The majority of the senior officials and parents of the members work within the construction industry. This has resulted in a high level of contact with both the local community and the business. They have recognised the good work carried out by the club and have been extremely generous in their support of the Clubs activities over the past 23 years.
The principle aims and objectives of the Club are to cater for the deprived and under privileged young people. Sporting and coaching facilities are provided so that it is affordable by these people. The Club wants to increase the participation of the young people to sports that they enjoy, by providing the maximum choices available. The Clubs main objective is to increase the participation of young people in a wider choice of sports and to assist each member in seeking and achieving their individual goals.
An Adult Management Committee of 13 Members who perform voluntary duties governs the Club. Every year AGMs are held and an audited statement of accounts for that financial year is presented. The Adult Management Committee is elected every two years.
At present the club runs three nights a week and separate facilities are provided for boys and girls. Current Sports include Football, Cricket, Badminton, Netball, Rounders and we also provide an Aerobics session, which is carried out every Friday.
Activities
As the club runs three nights a week, the activities are split in order to cater for the member and their various interests. Thursdays are for football. Friday night is purely a ladies night and finally Saturday night consists of everything else as well as football coaching for young boys under 12.
Social Events
During the formation of the club there was a desire that the members carried out sports activities. It was also recommended that the Club included in its programmes a way in which members and their families could enjoy such gatherings and become more aware of the Club's activities.
The Club also organises on coach trip a year, which is available to everyone. We usually fulfil our task by taking at least two coaches every year. It gives the members a day to spend with families and friends and of course to also have FUN!!!
