Badr Shafi’i
Badr Hassan Shafi’i is an author, political scientist focusing on African affairs, and a regular contributor to multiple media organizations.
Badr Shafi’i graduated with honors from Cairo University in 2011 with a PhD in Philosophy of Political Science. Shafi’i has also published two books, one on the settlement of conflicts in Africa and the other on the role of private security companies in Africa.
Shafi’i’s writings focus on analyzing political developments in Africa and have been published though multiple media outlets, including several considered to be affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood including Klmty.net, the Egyptian Institute for Political and Strategic Studies, and the Yusuf al-Qaradawi-created IslamOnline.
On November 26, 2016, the Egyptian Institute for Political and Strategic Studies, a research organization with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, released a report written by Dr. Badr Shafi’i with recommendations for the Muslim Brotherhood in dealing with the reported U.S. intent to designate the group as a [...] organization. In an attempt to repair the Muslim Brotherhood’s image in Congress, Shafi’i recommends that the Muslim Brotherhood contacts politicians, clerics, experts on international relations, and countries that may sympathize with their cause. In his report, Shafi’i also recommends that the Muslim Brotherhood hire both a U.S. law firm and public relations company, establish a Islamic lobby in the U.S., create a media team, improve ties with Congressmen, and work more closely with those who oppose Trump’s policies.
The Egyptian Institute for Political and Strategic Studies later published two more documents by Shafi’i in January and March 2017 focused on the issue of countering a potential U.S. [...] designation of the Muslim Brotherhood.
