History
Averda was established in Lebanon by Maysarah Sukkar in the 1970s and was originally called the Sukkar Engineering Group.
That same decade, the company relocated its headquarters to Saudi Arabia as a result of the Lebanese Civil War. In the early Nineties, after fifteen years of fighting, Lebanon urgently needed to rebuild its infrastructure. The government turned to Averda to implement an integrated plan to resolve unorganized waste collection.
Averda managed to set action plans, take prompt decisions, provide a modern fleet and equipment and establish state-of-the-art facilities. As a result, the company succeeded in restoring waste-free surroundings to the Mount Lebanon area and the capital Beirut, which became one of the cleanest cities in the Middle East.
Since then, the company has been expanding a through a vigorous acquisition strategy, bringing its original waste management companies, Sukleen and Sukomi under the Averda umbrella, as well as other subsidiaries including Lees International, Recyclo and Orantia.
Today, Averda is a flourishing environmental solutions provider spanning the entire spectrum of waste management.
