Arachnos

In the backstory for the games City of Heroes and City of Villains, Arachnos is the Italian Fascist group behind Benito Mussolini.

History

Sources inside Paragon City say Arachnos is responsible for Mussolini's success and eventual failure. Arachnos's earliest known leader is a man simply known as "The Weaver". After Stefan Richter, an Austrian-American technocrat, came across Super-human powers in 1931, he became a member of Arachnos. He worked his way up the ranks and eventually became the leader of Arachnos's Paragon City division, The Web, which was centered in the Perez Park area of Paragon. He assumed the name "Recluse" as a cover for his true identity. After his powers fully developed, he assumed the name "Lord Recluse". In a final confrontation with the Statesman, he was defeated and he fled to Etoile Islands. Lord Recluse eventually took over Arachnos and took over the whole of Etoile Islands. Under the leadership of Arachnos, the Etoile Islands became a City of Villains (some working for Arachnos, some not), and was unofficially renamed "The Rogue Islands". The Heroes of Paragon and the Villains of Rogue Islands continue to fight over hot spots like Siren's Call, Warburg, and Bloody Bay.
