In the summer of 1976 Apple Hostels Worldwide was founded after opening its first hostel in Hong Kong, The company rapidly became a leader in the industry having opened 39 hostel around the globe by the turn of the century. In 2001 the company's director William Egan snr took the decision to take a £73million company loan to open a further 30 hostels making the company one of the largest family owned hostel chains in the world. With a hostel in most capital city's around the world apple hostels worldwide is now the only hostel chain to do so whilst still being family owned.
William Egan snr born in 1951 in Guernsey has one child William Egan Jnr who currently sits on the Bord of Directors and has managed the USA side of the company for several year whilst living and working in Las Vegas as a Director at the Green Vally Ranch. Not yet set for retirement William Snr has vowed to continue to run the multi million pound company until his son believes he is ready to take over the family company.
With very respective profits year after year the company is rumored to soon be floated on the stock market yet there is no information to back this up.
The company recently released its yearly press statement declaring profits for 2008 of £176million, £23million up from 2007.
