Angel Island (Sonic)
Angel Island (also called Floating Island) is a island floating high in the air in the world of the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series.
The island is kept suspended because of the power of the Master Emerald, a large green emerald that can control the Chaos Emeralds. It was first introduced in "Sonic the Hedgehog 3."
When Dr. Eggman's Death Egg crashed on Angel Island, he tricked the Master Emerald's guardian, Knuckles the Echidna, into thinking that Sonic wanted to steal the Master Emerald, when it was actually Eggman who wanted it. Sonic managed to unfool Knuckles, and they stopped Eggman and became friends.
Later, Dr. Eggman shattered the Master Emerald, causing Angel Island to crash into the sea. Knuckles managed to find the shards of the Emerald and bring it back into the sky. However, the arising of Perfect Chaos in the Sega Dreamcast game "Sonic Adventure" caused it to fall again. When Sonic destroyed him, the island went back into the air.
Soon afterwords in "Sonic Adventure 2" for Gamecube, Rouge the Bat attempted to steal the Emerald with failed results. Eggman came by and shattered it, and both Knuckles and Rouge hunted down its shards. Why Angel Island didn't plunge into the sea as a result of this is unknown.
