Andrew Vincent and the Pirates

Andrew Vincent and the Pirates were a rock band based out of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The original lineup consisted of Andrew Vincent (guitar, vocals), Ian Tolton (bass guitar) and Scott Terry (drums).

The band formed in Ottawa in 2000, after Vincent had released his first solo album To Thine. The band powered-up Vincent's acoustic catalogue, and he began to work on material with more of a rock edge, inspired by bathing in recordings by The Velvet Underground and Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. Before long, enough material was ready for a New album, and he booked time at Little Bullhorn with Dave Draves. The result was A Short Trip with the Pirates, released on Kelp Records on May 22, 2001.

Ian Tolton moved to Vancouver a year later, and was replaced by Bryan Curry on bass. The Pirates gained favour with local indie rock fans with memorable shows in clubs such as the Hi Fi on Rideau Street, and Babylon on Bank Street. The new Pirates lineup went back to Little Bullhorn in 2002/2003 and recorded I Love the Modern Way (released July 29, 2003).

The band disbanded when Curry and Vincent both moved away in 2006. Vincent continues to record under his own name, and recently released Rotten Pear, his third solo effort, and fifth album overall. Andrew Vincent currently lives in Toronto. Bryan Curry lives on a farm north of Toronto. Scott Terry is co-owner of Spaceman Music in Ottawa, and plays in numerous local bands including The [...] Machines and B/A/C/O/N.
