Andre Moses de Rothschild

de Rothschild, Andre Moses (b. 14 May 1948; d 2 August 1979) was born to Jewish parents in Canada. His mother (whose family was originally from Salonika--Thessaloniki in Greece) was born in Sparta, Greece; she is a cousin of Elie Mordechai Faraggi (פרג'י), a Greek national hero killed in 1943 by the Nazis.

Rothschild was a physician, humanitarian, and the only son of Abraham Joseph de Rothschild (1929-1984) and Stella Faraggi (1928-1980), and a member of the English Rothschild banking family. In 1979, while volunteering with a group of physicians in the Sudan, he helped the small local Jewish community build a synagogue to worship, using his own money and even voulnteered as a laborer to help the community. He purchased a small building which was owned by a Christian merchant to referbish and turn it into a synagogue when he was met with disagreement by a local imam (Muslim Cleric) who was of the Wahabi sect . He accused Rothschild of being a western and Israeli spy; a mob tried to burn the newly renovated building down when Rothschild attempted to extinguish the flames; National Security troops arrested him with charges for inciting a riot, proselytizing, and posing a danger to the government.

He was beaten for three days then killed execution style and buried, according to witnesses, in an unmarked grave.

Andre Moses de Rothschild was educated at the University of Paris where he earned his medical degree.

He was married to Elizabeth Ann-Marie Sassoon (b. 1952) and has one son David Leopold de Rothschild (b.October 6,1973).
