Amy Fleisher
Amy Fleisher (b. September 14, 1979) is an entrepreneur, designer, and creative force known predominantly within the indie music scene. She is often referred to as "Amy Fiddler" because of her record label Fiddler Records. Fleisher was born in Miami, FL, where she attended the MAST Academy. While still in high school, she founded Fiddler Records at the notable age of 16.
Fleisher went on to attend the University of Miami, majoring in film, but the success of her record label's prospering bands (namely New Found Glory) demanded that she take a leave of absence. In her late teens she began working with a band featuring Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional, Vacant Andys). Soon after, Carrabba went solo. Fleisher encouraged Carrabba to release his solo songs under his new moniker, Dashboard Confessional. DC's success propelled Fiddler Records forward and garnered Fleisher a job offer as an A&R representative for Los Angeles based Vagrant Records.
In November 2001, Fleisher moved to Los Angeles, CA and began working for Vagrant. After nearly one year, Fleisher left Vagrant to pursue academics. Fleisher enrolled in the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA as an Advertising major and completed two semesters before taking another leave of absence to focus on Fiddler Records.
Fleisher began working with Recover from Austin, TX. Their EP "Ceci N'est Pas Recover" was Fiddler Records' 14th release. Produced by Brian McTernan, the EP received positive press and considerable attention, rocketing Fiddler into the public eye. This release marked Fleisher's first efforts in art direction and graphic design. Working with a former co-worker from Vagrant Records, Joby J. Ford, and Florida photographer RJ Shaughnessy, the creative team created a digipak featuring an unbound insert which depicted the band casually sitting in a room, surrounded by three [...] dead zombie girls.
Fleisher became involved in her label's art direction, creating advertising campaigns for the label as well as the bands. She also began designing merchandise for other bands and labels as well. She's worked with Taking Back Sunday, H20, Shirts For A Cure, MCA Records, Repossession Records, and many others.
Fleisher shut down Fiddler Records in 2006. Fleisher was then hired by a publishing company (Liquid Publishing) to start and run a music/pop culture magazine. Fleisher created Death and Taxes Magazine and oversaw its operation for one year, through its first six issues, and then parted ways with the company to return to college.
Fleisher is currently at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and is slated to graduate in April 2009 with a BFA in Advertising.
