Irarrázaval studied business and economics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, graduating in 1986. While at the university, he served as president of the Economics and Administration student association in 1985. During this period he met José Antonio Kast, who was studying law at the same university.

Chief presidential adviser
Following Kast's victory in December 2025, Irarrázaval assumed a central role in the president-elect's office, helping design the structure of the incoming government and overseeing the recruitment of technical personnel for government positions. In 2026, he was appointed head of the presidential advisory team known as the Segundo Piso at Palacio de La Moneda.
His position made him one of Kast's closest presidential advisers. Media reports described the Segundo Piso under Irarrázaval as one of the principal centres of political coordination within the administration.
In April 2026, Irarrázaval became involved in a dispute with parties supporting the government, including Republican Party president Arturo Squella.
