Alan Byrne (footballer born 1983)
Alan Byrne (born July 21 1983 in Dublin, Republic of Ireland) is an Irish football player who is currently playing FAI League of Ireland First Division club Monaghan United. Byrne plays in central midfield and can also play in central DeFence. His biggest strengths are his reliable heading and his long throw.
Career
Byrne began his senior career at Bohemians before having a successful spell at Monaghan United in 2003. He was signed by Kildare County manager Eric Hannigan for the commencement of the 2004 season. He was drafted into the Eircom League International squad in Aberdeen for the quadrangular tournament with England, Scotland and Wales in 2004. 2005 was his highlight for Kildare County. He picked up the Supporter's club player of the Year and the Person of the Year awards. Alan made his 100th appearance for Kildare County in the 2006 season becoming only the third player ever to play over 100 games for Kildare since the clubs foundation in 2002.
Byrne departed County after four seasons to join Shelbourne on November 29 2007. He made his Shelbourne debut against his former club Kildare County at Station Road on March 14 2008 as second half substitute during a 3-1 victory for the reds. He finished as a First Division runner-up with Shelbourne in 2008 and he made 17 league and cup appearances that season. Byrne departed Shelbourne at the end of the season to rejoin former club Monaghan United on January 27 2009.
