After the Tragedy

After the Tragedy is a four-piece post-hardcore band from Cabot, Arkansas. The band formed in August 2003, and independently recorded and released their debut full-length The Beautiful Brand New in 2005, before setting off on a self-booked tour around the mid-west section of United States. Some have said that their lyrics contain Christian themes and overtones, however the band makes no mention of Christianity in their mission statement:

"At some point in everyone's life they will experience some form of tragedy, whether it's a death in the family, [...] attack, weather catastrophe, or getting fired from the job expected to be their career. Eventually, the victim always turns to faith in something; a look to something bigger than one's own life. The realization that all the money, cars, [...], and stuff that this generation tells us we must have means absolutely nothing in the grand scenario of life. After the tragedy we find hope in the fact that death is not the end."

Notable Appearances

After the Tragedy was featured on MTV twice : Once in 2006 as the winner of Freedom Zone's "Amplified Challenge", earning a slot at SXSW in Austin, TX, their own original recordings on Amped 3 for XBOX 360, and $10,000 in prize money with which they bought a van for extensive touring. In 2007 they were featured on MTV for a second time when voted into the Dew Circuit Breakout's Top 6 against an unspeakable 4000 other talented bands including All Time Low. Other achievements include being featured in the November 2007 issue of Alternative Press Magazine, as well as being elected into the "Top 3 Unsigned Bands of 2007" in Hard Music Magazine.

Trivia

  • The lead vocalist, Joel, fell during a show at Vino's Brew Pub in Little Rock, Arkansas and broke his leg. Though in intense pain, Joel simply laughed and finished the song.
  • When asked why they were still unsigned, the bassist, James, stated this:

"We're not going to sign our lives away when we're doing fine on our own. It's going to take an offer better than what we can do for ourselves." So far, with hope, luck and the wind at their backs, what they can do for themselves is pretty hard to beat."
