Aes (album)
Aes is a single-track EP by Skepticism. It was released in 1999 by Red Stream.
It is noteworthy that in contrast to many songs of an absurdly long length, Aes contains absolutely no filler or other such material designed solely to pad out the running time. Every note in the song has a purpose in terms of the construction of whatever surrealistic imagery Skepticism were aiming for. Indeed, one great fan of the band has summarised the accomplishment the EP represents by stating that in contrast to pop songs that get boring and predictable in less than four minutes, Aes succeeds in leaving the listener wanting more even after nearly twenty-eight minutes. Individuals on the autistic spectrum with synaesthesia have described the song as being akin to a flight above an alien world.
Of particular note is that Aes is so far the only Skepticism song to contain a prolonged guitar solo. The drum sound, while still emphasised in comparison to the work that would follow, is considerably more integrated into the mix than was the case on prior releases.
