Admiral Pest Control, Inc. is the oldest family owned pest control company headquartered in Bellflower, California. The company is currently owned and managed by Jeffrey and Brian Jones, the grandsons of Walter Lance.

History

Admiral Pest Control was started in 1947 by Walter Lance and his wife Lora in their home on Mandale St. in Bellflower. In 1950 the business was moved to its current location at 9434 Artesia Blvd, Bellflower, California. In 1956 Earl Jones started work as a technician at Admiral Pest Control. Jones later married Walter Lance’s daughter, Betty. The couple had two sons, Jeff and Brian. In 1969, Admiral Pest Control incorporated and Walter Lance gave Earl half of the company in addition to day to day management responsibilities. Earl Jones continued running the company until 1987, when he gave day to day control to his two sons, Jeff and Brian. Brian Jones serves as the company’s president and is responsible for operations. His brother, Jeff, serves as vice president and oversees marketing and financial operations of the firm. As of 2014, several of Jeff's children are working for Admiral Pest Control.

Community Involvement

Admiral Pest Control and its executives have been active in a variety of community and trade organizations since its founding. Walter Lance was the president of the National Pest Management association in 1968-1969. He would later serve as a City Planning Commissioner and the president of Bellflower, California Chamber of Commerce The company has received significant notoriety for its involvement with the American Cancer Society. In 2006, Jeff Jones was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. This led to the creation of “Team Admiral”, a fundraising team led by Jeff Jones and made up of employees of Admiral Pest Control. The team is committed to raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Since its founding in 2007, the team has raised more than $130,000 for the American Cancer Society. In 2013, the team raised more than $40,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Notable Employees

Jeffrey (Jeff) Jones is the vice-president of Admiral Pest Control. He has gained significant notoriety for his involvement with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Jones was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in November 2006. Despite aggressive chemotherapy and radiation, Jones had his arm and shoulder amputated in May 2013. After his diagnosis, Jones formed “Team Admiral”, a fundraising team made up of the employees of Admiral Pest Control. Since 2007, the team has raised $130,000 for the American Cancer Society via the Relay for Life. In 2013, Jones was also awarded the American Cancer Society’s 2013 California Patient Courage Award. As a part of the award, he was selected to throw the honorary first pitch preceding the May 9, 2014 Dodgers vs. Giants baseball game at Dodger Stadium.
