Aditya MPV
Aditya is a Mine Protected Vehicle (MPV) manufactured by ordnance factory, Yeddumailaram, in Andhra Pradesh. The vehicle mounts the Stabilised Remote Controlled weapons station (SRCWS) above the seat of the driver to allow remote controlled firing of grenade launchers, MMGs and LMGs from inside the vehicle.
The Aditya was developed with assistance from Israel and can withstand an explosion of ten Kg TNT. It usually has 7.62 mm MAG installed on remote-controlled station. The Aditya MPV can carry twelve crew, including two drivers, and can storm into an enemy's camp. It is equipped with ultra-modern facilities that allows it to attack a target anytime.
Deployment
As a part of a MoU signed with IMA, Israel, and with its cooperation, the Ordnance Factory Medak has started producing 20 'Aditya' MPVs per month. The INDIAN army has put its requirement at 1,400 number of 'Aditya'. However, an order of 250 'Aditya' has been placed. Aditya MPVs are likely be handed over the Northern Command first because of more frequent [...] attack in that region. US has also earlier shown interest in purchasing the mine-proof vehicle. However, the Government of India has denied to provide it because of strategic reasons.
