Corporate governance

In Corporate governance structure efficiency and bank performance in Saudi Arabia (2009), Al-Hussain examined the relationship between the efficiency of the structure of corporate governance and the performance of the banks, because the structure of corporate governance in the banking sector is one of the basic components in enhancing the efficiency and performance of the banks, the study found that there is a strong relationship between the efficiency of the structure of corporate governance and bank performance, when using return on assets as a standard of performance, but when using earnings per shares, there is a positive, but weak relationship.

In Relationship between corporate governance efficiency and Saudi banks' performance (2009), Al-Hussain and Johnson found that there is a strong relationship between the efficiency of corporate governance structure and Saudi Banks' performance measured by return on assets.

Al-Hussain and Johnson (2009) discover that among nine Saudi banks, blockholders are influential in the efficiency of corporate governance structures.

Al-Hussain and Johnson (2009) reported a positive relationship between corporate governance and performance. This conclusion requires that United Arab Emirates (UAE) national banks review corporate governance practices and take the necessary actions for improvement. Based on the interviews conducted by Al‐Tamimi (2012), these results might be expected as most of the UAE national banks reported concerns regarding board of directors composition, executive compensation, and corporate governance culture.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made considerable progress with respect to the implementation of viable and culturally appropriate governance mechanisms (Al-Hussain & Johnson, 2009).
