Addiction Foods (New Zealand's company)
Addiction Foods is a manufacturer of hypoallergenic dog food and cat food based in New Zealand and Australia. Their Foods contain no preservatives, chemicals or fillers that are commonly used in most commercial pet foods.
History
Addiction Foods was founded by a holistic veterinarian and clinical nutritionist who saw thousands of cats and dogs with skin diseases and gastrointestinal conditions caused by allergies to beef, chicken, lamb and artificial additives. Addiction Foods claim that their variety of products are the result of over 20 years of research and experience and improves the way in which pets’ nutritional needs are addressed.
Ingredients
Addiction Foods makes products for both dogs and cats with both using unusual ingredients not found in other food brands such as kangaroo meat, New Zealand brushtail and unagi eel. Also used is venison, king salmon, and dried seaweed which are unique to only a few manufacturers. Other quality ingredients are flaxseed oil, dried apples, sunflower seed, potatoes, avocados, carrots, peas, sunflower oil, canola, and cottonseed meal.
Eco-friendly
Addiction Foods is the only world-wide pet food manufacturer to use the NZ Brushtail / Possum and Australian kangaroo. The reason is two-fold. In New Zealand, the brushtailed possum was introduced in the 20th century from Australia where they became a major pest species. . In Australia, farmers and ranchers view the kangaroo as a pest and nuisance that impedes cattle ranching. By using brushtail possum and kangaroo, the Addiction food company utilizes two pests to help stabilize a small but important part of the ecology of both countries and create foods which contains higher levels of Omega 3 & Omega 6 fatty acids than other red meats and fish.
