Adam Carmichael
Adam Jeffrey Carmichael (born April 19, 1982) is an American software architect and politician. In 2024 he married his husband (Juan David Valencia Marulanda) in a civil ceremony in Medellín, Colombia where Valencia was born and the couple shares a home. Carmichael has been a resident of Southern California since 2016.
Early life
Carmichael was born in Redding, California. After graduation Carmichael enlisted in the US Navyand served onboard the USS Paul F. Foster as a Quartermaster and Search and Rescue (SAR) Swimmer before it was decommissioned.. He was awarded the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and National Defense Service Medal, among others
Personal life
Carmichael current lives in an H-POZ neighborhood in Los Angeles, California in a historical home that he restored in 2019.
He has worked as a Solution and Sustainment Architect on Human Capital Management software since 2013.
Carmichael has a degree in Sociology & Behavioral Science with a focus in Urban Planning and Development.
2026 Los Angeles mayoral election

On December 25, 2025, Carmichael announced that he will be running for Mayor of Los Angeles in the 2026 Los Angeles mayoral election, challenging incumbent Karen Bass. Carmichael is a registered Democrat, but the municipal race is officially nonpartisan.
Carmichael is running on a platform housing the homeless with focus for drug dependency and mental health, redeveloping Los Angeles's aging infrastructure, restoring city services that were defunded to pay for other services, and immigration support.
