Aberdeen Student Radio

Aberdeen Student Radio or ASR (preceded by Slick FM) is a student internet radio station based at the University of Aberdeen. It broadcasts online during term time, as well as in the campus social area The Hub.

History

The internet-based broadcaster is Aberdeen's first student radio station in ten years. Previously, short-term Restricted Service Licenses had been granted to the University's first student radio station, Slick FM, in the mid-1990s; this had enabled broadcasts to be made to the whole city over FM radio, but only for a few weeks each year. The station now has a full license allowing constant internet broadcast.

Funding

After an initial funding grant of £10,000, the station is funded primarily by the University of Aberdeen's Alumni Organisation and the Aberdeen University Students' Association.

The station also receives income from its live music events, and from related promotional activities.

Live Music

From September 2008, the station began to organise live music events in around the City of Aberdeen . Initially working primarily with The Tunnels, a local music venue, and now with The Moorings as well.
