Abdu Kiar

Abdu Kiar (also known as Abd) is an Ethiopian singer. He was born on June 23, 1976 in Merkato, Addis Ababa from a family of Eritrean origin. His father is Kiar Kahssay and his mother is Wuba Siraj.

Early life

Growing up in Merkato (the biggest open market in Africa), Abdu Kiar learned reggae, dancehall & hip hop hits with express band in 1996 in Lion Club. In 1998 when the Ethiopian-Eritrean civil war started, Abdu Kiar's family was deported and he moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He stayed there until 2003, working as a salesman in a fashion store.

Professional life

He then began writing songs and recorded his first album, Merkato Sefere which is known as an anthem of Ethiopia. He became very popular in Ethiopia and is known for showing love to his country. Since 2003, Abdu Kiar has released three albums:

  • Fikir Bamaregna in 2006
  • Minew Shewa in 2009
