Abbot Lawn
Abbot Lawn is a historic farm and the ancestral home of the Abbot Family. The current home was built in 1863 after the first home burnt to the ground due to arson in 1859.
History
Abbot Lawn was established in 1856 by Issac Abbot. He moved his wife and eight children to the property and built a large log cabin. Their house was known to be one of the finest homes in all of Fayette County, WV. On a Sunday in 1859 while the family was attending church, their home was set on fire and quickly burnt to the ground. With no other choice, the family moved into their tobacco barn for four years. Construction began on a new cabin with the help of friends and family members in 1861.
Abbot Lawn today
Today, Abbot Lawn is still functioning with the 1863 log cabin still in use. It is used as a retreat by the Abbot Family and relatives. In the past, it has been open for tours, but tours are no longer available for security reasons. Abbot Lawn has been featured in the media around Fayetteville and Fayette County, and was also featured in the state newspaper.
