Aaron Newman

Aaron Charles Newman is an entrepreneur and explorer. He founded five software startups, authored multiple books, and holds six patents. As an explorer, he has traveled to the stern of the Titanic, descended into the Mariana Trench, and twice attempted to summit Mount Everest. He flew to space in October 2025 with Blue Origin on NS-36.

He founded Exploring Our Deep World, a non-profit organization advancing education, conservation, scientific research, and exploration of Earth's deep waters. A U.S. Army veteran of the First Gulf War, Aaron serves on the boards of TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) and the Strong National Museum of Play.

Early life and military service

Newman was born in Orange County, California, and grew up in Tioga County, New York. He attended Candor High School in Tioga County. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army, serving from 1988 to 1990 as a cannon crewmember (MOS 13B). He was recalled during his time as a student at Binghamton University for deployment in the 1991 Operation Desert Shield. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Binghamton University in 1994.

Business career

Newman has founded and sold numerous companies. Four of his successful startups include Techrigy, founded in 2005 and acquired by Alterian PLC in 2009, Application Security Inc., which was acquired by Trustwave, DBSecure Inc. which was acquired by Internet Security Systems in 1998, and Cloudcheckr which was sold to NetApp in 2021 for US$350 million.

Ocean exploration

Newman was the 19th person to dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. He has also dove to the Titanic with the previous submarine developer Oceangate. As of 2025 he is operating a non profit focused on ship wreck discovery in Lake Ontario, Lake Assal and the Dead Sea.

Space flight

In October 2025 Newman flew on Blue Origin NS-36 and became the 717th human to reach space as a research subject on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket working on a project for Utah State University focused on human adaptation to spaceflight.
