2022 Beckley police shooting

On July 6, 2022, the Beckley Police Department in Beckley, West Virginia conducted a car chase on 36-year-old Matthew Scott Jones of Culpeper, Virginia starting at approximately 10:00 A.M. (EDT). Jones refused to stop and a pursuit traveled into Fayette County, West Virginia and back into the Bradley area of Raleigh County.
The pursuit subsequently ended when Jones' stolen vehicle became disabled, resulting in him exiting the vehicle and waving a pistol, at one point ultimately pointing the gun to his head as a scare tactic. Jones was shot and killed by officers on near the ramp of Interstate 64 in Bradley, West Virginia. The amount of rounds fired are currently unknown, but speculations say that the police used bean bag rounds, a less lethal round.
