2016–17 Santo Antão North Second Division
The 2016–17 Santo Antão North Second Division season was the 5th competition of the third-tier level of the football that took place in the northern part of the island of Santo Antão, Cape Verde. Its started on November 20 and ended on 26 March, the season finished the earliest of any of the country's regional second division in most regions. The tournament was organized by the Santo Antão North Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Zona Norte do Santo Antão, ARFZNSA). Rosariense won their only title which they did on February 19 and later finished with 15/18 points and will participate in the Premier Division in the following season. Solpontense finished second and newcomer Torrense finished last without a win or a draw. The scheduling were made in September.
Overview
Originally a five club season and would contain ten rounds with eight matches each club (total of twenty) and with a club having two bye weeks, instead as two clubs (São Pedro Apóstolo and Irmãos Unidos) withdrew due to financial and partly scheduling reasons, it was reduced to three clubs and had nine rounds by a match each week (total of nine) with a bye week every three weeks for a club.
Solpontense was relegated last season after finished last place and participated for the first time in the Second Division.
Torreense's first ever match was on November 20 against Rosariense and lost to that club
Much of the season was led by Rosariense. Torrense had nothing but losses during the season.
