2010 Tokyo jewellery heist
The 2010 Tokyo jewellery heist was a theft of watches worth AbOUT 300 million yen took place on January 3, 2010 in Ginza, a neighborhood in Tokyo, Japan.
Theft
On January 1, 2010, two thieves entered the Tenshōdō jewellery shop in Tokyo's Ginza district through a 40-50cm bored hole in the concrete wall of the shop and stole approximately 200 luxury watches worth an estimated 300 million yen.
The watches were kept in the basement with no sensor activated at the time of theft.
Arrest
On January 8, 2010, Hong Kong police arrested six Chinese suspects from Hong Kong, including three men and three women aged between 36 and 53.
About 180 watches stolen from the store were recovered; they had been were sent by express mail from Japan to Hong Kong in five parcels. The other watches are presumed to have been sold.
About Tenshōdō
Tenshōdō, founded in 1879, sells jewellery and branded luxury watches such as Rolex, Chopard and Piaget. The shop located at first-story of the nine-story building in the heart of the Ginza, Tokyo's busiest high-class shopping district.
