2009–10 Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy
The 2009-10 Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy (currently known known as the Cooperatives Challenge Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 121st since the competition's establishment in 1885. Twenty eight clubs entered the competition and it is currently sponsored by The Co-operative Group. The current holders are Skelmersdale United, who defeated Radcliffe Borough 2-1 in the 2008-09 final, but this season they have not entered the contest.
Competing Teams
The teams entering this seasons contest are
- Conference National (one club) - Barrow
- Conference North (two clubs) - Fleetwood Town and Southport
- Northern Premier League Premier Division (three clubs) - Burscough, Kendal Town, and Marine
- Northern Premier League Division One North (eight clubs) - Bamber Bridge, Chorley, Clitheroe, AFC Fylde, Lancaster City, Leigh Genesis, Radcliffe Borough and Rossendale United
- North West Counties Football League Premier Division (seven clubs) - Ashton Athletic, Atherton Laburnum Rovers, Bacup Borough, Colne, Nelson, Ramsbottom United and Squires Gate
- North West Counties Football League First Division (seven clubs) - AFC Blackpool, Atherton Collieries, Daisy Hill, Holker Old Boys, Padiham, Rochdale Town and Wigan Robin Park
Teams that have withdrawn:
- Skelmersdale United and Darwen F.C.
For this season's contest, The teams in the Conference and the Cup winners will receive a bye to the 2nd Round. Due to the withdrawal of Skelmersdale, Radcliffe Borough who were the defeated finalists will take the 4th Bye spot.
The format of the cup is a one-off match at the home team's ground. If after 90 minutes a winner is not decided, then extra time and penalties will take place.
For the first time in four seasons, the final will take place at the Reebok Stadium in Horwich, home of Bolton Wanderers, the semi finals will also take place on neutral ground, taking place at the L.F.A Headquarters in Leyland
