2009–10 Champions Hockey League

The 2009–10 Champions Hockey League was going to be the second season of the Champions Hockey League, but was canceled. In comparison with the first edition, the Champions Hockey League was planned to be expanded to two qualification stages with a total of 29 teams from 22 different countries participating. On 28 April, however, the IIHF General Secretary Horst Lichtner announced that "it is more likely that we’ll play it like this [the 2008–09] season." In both cases, the main phase would be contested by 12 teams, among them the 7 champions of the top leagues. However the IIHF announced on June 15, 2009 that the 2009–10 season of the Champions Hockey League has been cancelled.
