The 2007-08 Lake City Timberwolves basketball season is the 14th season in school history. The basketball team has been in a slump for most of it's career, the highlight of the team's success was the 2002 season, when the team finished 2nd in the State Tournament, losing in the championship game. Recently the teams have been decent, in the 2005-06 campaign the team finished 9-14 (2-5), in the 06-07 season, the squad received a 14-9 (4-6) mark, with a 9-1 home record. A bright future is expected for the Timberwolves this season, as Coach Jim "Thack-Daddy" Thacker has wet his beak in the new system, and his team is returning 7 letterman, and 3 starters from last years bunch, as well as two New Hampshire transfers in Ben and Nate Frisbee, Ben was a player of the year as a sophomore for his classification in his former state. Lake City has sent one player to the Division I level, Matt Dloughy, who attended the University of Montana, he was part of the 2002 team that placed runner-up at state. Dloughy is regarded as the greatest player in Lake City's history.
Jim Thacker is entering his 36th year coaching, and his 3rd year at Lake City, in his 36 years, he has compiled a 517-326 record, and has gone 26-26 (6-11 league) while coaching Lake City. Entering the season he stated: “We’ve got a chance to be real good, there’s no question about that. Anybody that knows anything about the game can see it. I thought we were going to be pretty good (before the transfers). When they showed up, it made us better. How much better remains to be seen.”
