1963–64 Mersin İdmanyurdu season

Mersin İdmanyurdu (MİY) attended Turkish Second Football League in 1963–64 season as Çukurova İdman Yurdu (ÇİY) (due to sponsorship reasons) and finished 5th. Before the season ÇİY was agreed with a Yugoslav manager, Dimitri Tadiç. Turkish Football Federation asked for Yugoslav federation permission.

1963–64 league participation

The 1963–64 was the first season of the league. ÇİY was one of two clubs became professional, which were coming from regional leagues other than Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir and participated in Second League. The other team was one of MİY's rivals, Adana Demirspor. Bursaspor was also formed by merging amateur clubs of the city and accepted to league at this season. ÇİY was Turkey Amateur Champions in 1963.

The winner team promoted to First League 1964–65 and one bottom team relegated to regional league.

1963–64 Turkish Cup participation

The second Turkish Cup (Türkiye Kupası) was played with 66 teams: 18 First League teams, 13 Second League teams, 20 regional league teams and 15 amateur teams. Galatasaray won the cup againand became eligible for playing ECW Cup games next year. ÇİY participated at the cup starting form 2nd preliminary round of Round 3, and eliminated in original Round 3 game.

• Round 3 - Preliminary 1 - 22.12.1963 - ÇİY-Ankara Demirspor: 2-1. Sunday. Mersin.
• Round 3 - 18.03.1964 - PTT-ÇİY: 1-0. Wednesday, 14:30. 19 Mayıs Stadium, Ankara. Goal: Yüksel 80'. PTT was eliminated in next round, i.e. quarter-finals.

1963–64 squad

Nejat was transferred from Vefa (27.09.1963) and played his first match against Şekerspor in Ankara. Before the match he was announced that he became the captain of the team. The next match was against Vefa in Mersin. Mersin won the game 2-1. Nejat later said that he cried after the match. Nejat had problem with his club and became free agent with the decision of the Federation.

Goalkeeper Erdem and midfielder Faruk have been capped in Youth National Team against Romania National Youth team in Mersin 19 Mayıs Stadium in 12.02.1964, 14:30. Young national team played another game against Romania in Antalya in a few days later. On 10.12.1964 Young national team has played a training game with ÇİY and lost 0-1. ÇİY: Doğan, Yalçın, Muammer, Mehmet, Nejat, Oktay, B. Faruk, Hakkı, Zafer, Hasan Alp. Goal: Nejat 51'. K. Faruk played for national team.

Faruk Karadoğan was transferred to Beşiktaş at the end of the season. Other Faruk was transferred to Gençlerbirliği. Goalkeeper Erdem went to Karşıyaka. Emin received 45 days penalty from discipline committee.
