1744th Transportation Company
The 1744th Transportation Company is Medium Truck transportation unit assigned the 1144th Transportation (MT) Battalion within the 108th Sustainment Brigade. The unit is headquartered in Streator, Illinois and has a detachment located in Delavan, Illinois.
The 1744th Transportation Company's primary mission is to provide transportation support for the distribution of containerized cargo. To accomplish this mission, the unit employs the M915A3 truck-tractor with suitable trailer variants. The unit is capable of semi-independent operations using its own organic maintenance, administrative, and food service support.
In 2007, the 1744th Transportation Company completed a successful mobilization and deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with its twelve month deployment to LSA Anaconda, Balad, Iraq. The unit served in a Force Protection role, providing perimeter security to LSA Anaconda as well as performing Security Escort Patrols in support of vehicle recovery operations as well as new equipment fielding and testing. While deployed the unit conducted over 200 successful security patrols without loss. For its outstanding performance the unit received a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
The unit is currently slated to undergo transformation within the near future.
