"The Fight for Little Saigon in San Jose"
The recent decision by the San Jose City Council to name a strip of businesses along Story Road, “Saigon Business District” in direct opposition of popular calls for “Little Saigon” have incensed many in the Vietnamese American community of Northern California. City councilwoman Madison Nguyen, who proposed the name change in opposition of community support, has been asked to step down by many in the local Vietnamese American community. Recent media accounts of the issue have largely sought to gain the perspective of community members present at the rallies pushing for a City Council decision reversal.
COMMITTEE FOR LITTLE SAIGON
Resolution
Based on the opinion of the majority of the attendees of the Vietnamese Community General Meeting, organized by the Committee for Little Saigon on Sunday, September 23rd, 2007 at Yerba Buena High School in the City of San Jose, California, who have selected the name Little Saigon as their choice for the proposed business district on Story Road,
Whereas the name Little Saigon symbolizes and identifies the Vietnamese refugee communities in the United States and other countries throughout the free world,
Whereas the name Little Saigon has been officially recognized by numerous cities, counties and states throughout the United States, in tandem with Yellow Flag Resolutions, where high concentrations of Vietnamese refugees reside and do business,
Whereas any name other than Little Saigon does not represent the genuine character of freedom-loving Vietnamese refugees overseas who yearn for democracy for Vietnam,
Therefore, we humbly request that the San Jose City Council favorably consider the meaningful name of Little Saigon for the business district on Story Road, to satisfy the wishes of the majority of the Vietnamese-American residents in San Jose, the Vietnamese-American Community having greatly contributed to the wealth and development of the City of San Jose.

NLP as a tool for change
Gary Wesselhoff--Network Analyst by day, "gman Blues" solo acoustic performer by night has attributed Neural Linguistic Programming (NLP)and autosuggestion as the sources of dramatic growth and change in his life.
It started during the millennium year, while watching some friends of his perform--suddenly Gary at the age of forty-six became overcome with the desire to change the direction of his life. That night Gary had a lucid dream in which he was the headliner at a major concert. In the dream Gary played with many great now deceased blues music players of the 1960’s. The dream was so powerful and clear that he decided to chase that vision.
There were many obstacles to overcome. Although he played guitar in college with a Chicago area band called Woodlind in the 1970s, his playing had atrophied into a state of ineffectuality. He had psychological roadblocks in his path as well. Considered by Rock and roll culture as past his prime—both age and appearance Gary set off on a course to challenge the culture.
It began with a new identity persona thought up by his wife of twenty years Carla. “gman Blues” is the handle that she gave him. Gman developed a program of NLP and self hypnosis to help him overcome his apprehension of appearing as a middle aged rocker modeled upon the theories of Barrie Konicov and NLP as presented by Tony Robbins to overcome fear, motivate change, and short-cut through years of trial and error. He put himself on an accelerated schedule not having ten to twenty years to learn the ropes.
Gman created a series of messages addressing his fears, and strengthening his intensity regarding writing, producing, and performing his own material. Every night Gary would sleep to these messages playing over and over through a set of head phones.
The progress he has made is notable. He has taken the first steps of his dream and written, recorded, and released his first album; a collection of blues, acoustic rock, and pop pieces titled “g-force”. He has performed both live and on pod-casts; his web-site regularly get hits from approximately eighty-eight countries from around the world. It’s gratifying to Gary when he discovers places as remote as Tuvalu tuning into his pod-casts, and downloading his songs.
So far gman hasn’t been on the grand stages of rock, but it is a mark he is moving to.

Built in the early 1990s, Byron Somerset is the newest public school in Byron, a subdivision in London, Ontario. Its address is 175 Whisperwood Ave, London, ON, N6K 4C6. It is a part of the Thames Valley District School Board.
There are 337 students. There are 13.5 classes, JK to Grade 8 and one Grade 7/8 Intensive Support class.
It was built in a former gravel pit, excavated by AAROC Aggregates. Because of its location in a former gravel pit, it is surrounded on two sides with a large hill. Its architecture was by the firm Lamb, Jorden and Jensen, which later became Carsten Jensen.
The building is wheelchair accessible, with ramps anywhere there are stairs. There is a double gym, with a removable wall dividing the two sides. There is also a lunch room, music room and large library. There is an after school hours daycare, operated by the London Children's Connection. The daycare has its own room, with a similar layout to the kindergarten classrooms next door.

Larry Alexander Wilson was born on February 19 in 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland USA and by the 1968 he was 19 years old bold young man who brightly remembers events of Baltimore Riots of April 1968.
In 1967 Wilson graduated from Baltimore City College High School. Baltimore City College is the Country’s third oldest high school. It was first opened in 1839 as an all male school. Following the landmark ruling of Supreme Court in the case Brown v. Board of Education, the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners decided to desegregate the school system. As a result of that decision, ten African-American students entered City College in September of 1954; Larry Alexander Wilson had a chance for better education.
In 1967 Wilson began attending Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, the oldest black college/university in the country, as a Political Science major. Until 1972 it was all male school. After attending Lincoln University for 3 years, Larry Wilson never graduated with Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, but it didn’t stop him from having a successful career in radio broadcasting for another 20 years of his life.
Wilson started as a news reporter at WEBB in 1969, worked at WBAL (1970-1974), had one years experience at WILD in Boston, MA. in 1974 and continued at NBC, Washington, DC until 1977. From 1977 until 1982 Wilson worked at WCAO/WXYV where he started as news reported, later became the Public Service Director and ended up as the Program Director for the station. He spent 5 years at WWIN (1982-1987) and his last 3 years of his radio broadcasting career he dedicated to WBAL (1987 to 1990).
In 1995 Wilson drastically changed his career and became a cook at one of the finest Baltimore’s fine dinning Restaurant’s, Brass Elephant. He has been working there for the last 12 years.
On October 2nd of 2007 Larry Alexander Wilson agreed to participate in the University of Baltimore “Baltimore’ 68: Riots and Rebirth” project and gave an interview to a History major student Sandra A. McLaughlin. An interview was taped and recorded on University of Baltimore campus and is being archived in the Langsdale Library’s Special Collection and it is accessible to the public.
